Sally Field, 76, never underwent plastic surgery despite fighting ageism in Hollywood her whole career

Given the strain that famous women frequently face, it’s rare to stumble into a celebrity these days who hasn’t been to work. Even at 76 years old, Sally Field has broken most of the “rules” imposed on women in Hollywood.

We value Sally Field’s performances in films like Forrest Gump and Steel Magnolias. Some of her best work can be found in her approach to fighting ageism in her field of work rather than on the screen.

Sally Field, who was born in Pasadena, California, in 1946, originally rose to fame thanks to shows like Gidget and The Flying Nun on television.

The now 76-year-old celebrity first rose to fame as an activist and performer in television before transitioning to the film industry.

She starred in several well-known films, including Smokey and the Bandit, Norma Rae, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Forrest Gump.

The actress gratefully accepted the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award in February 2023 and gave a speech about her illustrious and lengthy career.

During her career, Field has already received two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Film Award nominations, three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two SAG Awards, including her most recent Life Achievement Award, two SAG Awards, and a Tony nomination.

Field is seen as talented and ageless and is a passionate campaigner. She gave a brief overview of her challenging performing career in her modest acceptance speech for the SAG Achievement Award.

“I felt watchful, circumspect, and out of the limelight. On stage, however, I was never sure what I would say or do. I would be surprised by myself. She remarked, “I wasn’t hoping for praise or attention, though it’s excellent.”

The goal of my acting has always been to capture those golden moments when I feel complete, whole, and occasionally dangerously alive. It has never been easy to find a way there.

“They gave me the freedom to be vulnerable and revealed aspects of myself that I never would have known otherwise. I have worked my entire life. There hasn’t been a day when I haven’t been truly thrilled to identify as an actor, she maintained for almost 60 years.

During an interview with NPR in 2016, Field discussed portraying an old eccentric named Doris Miller:

I’m not ashamed to be an old woman; 70 is ancient. Because I earned the right to have them and I owned them, my years have given me strength. It’s okay, even though I loathe my neck and a lot of other stuff.

Field has already discussed naturally aging in a press interview. She discussed how she handled the pressure to complete assignments for work in an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2009:

When I see a picture of myself on the screen, I think, “Oh, I wish that weren’t happening to my neck.” Your face is falling, and your eyes are squinting. But then I run into some of the women (who have had plastic surgery) that I formerly thought were really gorgeous. Oh no, this is how I’m feeling. Do not do it! It would also appear disrespectful to who they are at this moment.
