Until Humphrey entered her life, Erica had never owned a mule, despite the fact that she had been an advocate for saving horses from the racetrack and giving them new homes.

A Belgian draft mule named Humphrey was saved from the slaughter pipeline. He was thought to be too small for the job despite having a back length of approximately six feet and a handspan of approximately 17.2.

Humphrey is a draft mule whose owner, Erica, saved him.
Erica had been asked if she would foster him for a while by a Rancho Relaxo employee.
Erica’s husband informed her that they were unable to release Humphrey when it came time for him to return. Humphrey became Erica’s “foster fail” and remained a family member for life.

Humphrey proved to be a steep learning curve, and Erica’s previous experience with horses did not adequately prepare her for the differences she would encounter with mules.

Despite his occasional stubbornness, Humphrey is a friendly and affectionate animal.
Erica needed to procure Humphrey’s trust, however when she did, she could do nearly anything with him.
