Nearly 250 Neglected Rabbits Rescued From One Property

The Humane Society Tacoma & Pierce County saves thousands of animals in Tacoma, Washington area.

In mid-February, 246 hares were seized from a Puyallup, Washington, property by Penetrate Province Creature Control. They were brought to the Empathetic Culture for Tacoma and Puncture Region. The sanctuary’s veterinary staff answered the property to rapidly assist with evaluating the well-being of the bunnies as creature control started taking them to the haven for care.

Dr. Jennifer Bennett, the shelter’s chief veterinary officer at the time, stated, “This is a massive undertaking.” This is one of our shelter’s largest intakes ever. We’ve been working nonstop to prepare for the extensive care these rabbits will require, and we need the community’s assistance.

After a few weeks, the shelter is still trying to find homes for many of these bunnies, but more than 150 of them are still receiving care, so the shelter is still looking for help from the community. All bunny adoption fees at the shelter will be reduced to $25 between March 10 and March 31 to encourage adoptions.

There are currently a few adoptable rabbits at the shelter, and more are anticipated to be available in the coming weeks. The shelter’s website contains pictures of animals and rabbits that can be adopted.
