A progressive attitude toward age is not what sets models apart from the rest of the industry. However, the fashion industry is gradually beginning to employ mature-aged models. One such person is Setsuko Saito, also known as Rosa Saito, who is from So Paulo. She was allowed to work as a model when she was 68 years old. Saito was persuaded to give it a shot after a year, twice from a modeling agency and once from a photographer. She hasn’t looked back, and even after all these years, she still succeeds as a model. She has now turned 71.
Saito was a long-term caregiver prbeforeodeling. She took care of her mother when she was 22 years old, and when her husband passed away in 2000, she became the only parent of their three children. She had “devoted herself to someone else” for so long, which was one reason she decided to try modeling. She didn’t want to have regrets in her life. I’ll never know if I don’t try, Saito thought.
With her elegant pose and long silver hair, Saito appears effortless. She shoots editorial, marketing, and even fashion photo shoots because she is a versatile model. Saito has participated in fashion weeks in So Paulo and is also no stranger to the runway. She takes on new projects without age in mind because of her adventurous spirit.
I continue to learn, and I believe that the more I learn, the less I know. Yes, time passes, but what exactly is time, my Heavenly Father? I would give my soul 22 years of age if I had to.
